Unlocking Comfort: A Guide to Chiropractic Care for Expecting Moms

We hear so many questions from expecting or pregnant moms about chiropractic care. And we LOVE this! This means they truly care about the wonderful journey they are about to take, and are being proactive not reactive about the changes that will be occurring in their bodies!

Of the questions, a few of the most common are:

  1. How do we position pregnant women on the chiropractic table?

  2. What misalignments do we most commonly find in pregnant women?

  3. What does it feel like to get adjusted while pregnant?

In this blog, we are going to cover these topics!

How do we position pregnant women on the chiropractic table?

When it comes to positioning pregnant women on our chiropractic table, we've got options!  Our pregnancy pillows, complete with a comfy cut-out center, turn face-down into a spa day for moms. With sizes for every pregnancy stage, there's more room for you and your baby to lay comfortably for the adjustment. And for those not keen on laying face down, we've got techniques that let you stay upright – because comfort is key!

What misalignments do we most commonly find in pregnant women?

Now, let's talk about misalignments. The most common spinal misalignment we find in our moms  is the sacrum (aka the tailbone).  Dr. Trish swears by Webster's technique – which is the gold standard for balancing the sacrum and round ligaments. Those ligaments' main job is uterine support, and restrictions can cause a lot of discomfort in the front of the hip and low back. Especially as your belly really starts to grow around the 2nd trimester!

What does it feel like to get adjusted while pregnant?

Ever wondered what it feels like to be adjusted while pregnant? Enter relaxin, this hormone plays a crucial role in preparing the body for childbirth by promoting increased flexibility and mobility in certain areas. Sometimes that instability causes issues in the spine! Specific chiropractic adjustments, whether manual, drop-table, or instrument-assisted, are like a great way to keep that necessary yet pesky hormone in check!

If you're a mom-to-be eager to learn more about how chiropractic can help, Dr. Patricia and the Culture Chiropractic crew are ready to chat and schedule your new patient exam!
